Horbury and Ossett Phoenix Rotary is one of more than 32,000 Rotary clubs worldwide.
Phoenix is a service club primarily serving the communities of Horbury, Ossett, Netherton, Middlestown, Overton, West Bretton and Midgley. Members meet regularly both socially and to perform charitable works, either by direct hands-on efforts or by raising money for other charitable organisations and worthy causes. Money we raise is managed through our charitable trust which makes grants or donations to mainly local as well as some international good causes.
Our fund-raising events through the year have included the Horbury Show (now with the Hospice), Santa's Sleigh, sponsored walks, and bucket collections for specific charities or good causes (i.e. helping people in Ukraine). Additionally we have undertaken or supported events such as litter picking, tree and bulb planting, refurbishment of park benches, Xmas Tree Collections for the Hospice, The Wakefield Dragon Boat Race, Remembrance Poppy sales, and the supply and installation of Defibrillators across the area.
Our members come from a wide range of occupations and backgrounds and many are involved with other charity or community activities including, Citizens Advice, Wakefield Wombles, Outward Bound Trust, Friends of Horbury Parks, Horbury Victoria Band, Physionet, and the Emley Churches Together Kenya Education project. You don’t have to be a member of Phoenix to take part and support projects – a large number of people have supported the Horbury Show and other events – and we will be very happy to extend a welcome to volunteers who may want to be involved in other events and projects.
We meet regularly and try to ensure that we have at least one social get together with partners and friends every couple of months.
