Rotary Club and Community work together to provide more Defibrillators

Four new defibrillators have become operational in the Horbury and Ossett Area as a result of great co-operation between local residents, business, Councillors, Government funding, street lighting contractors Amey and co-ordination from Rotary Club of Horbury and Ossett Phoenix

1. Southfield Close, Horbury – funded by an afternoon tea event hosted by the Rotary Club with help from Jonathan Earnshaw and Steve Brook. Now looked after and maintained by the Southfield Close Christmas Lights residents group

2. Manor Road, Ossett – near to Green Park – funded by the family and friends of the late Gary Widdop with additional finance from a government infrastructure grant administered by Wakefield Council and obtained by the Rotary Club. Now monitored by The Friends of Green Park, Ossett.

3. Gaskell Drive, Horbury - financed from a government infrastructure grant administered by Wakefield Council and obtained by the Rotary Club with the support and encouragement of Councillors Byford, Nicholls, and Page. Now monitored by a local family on Manorfields Estate.

4. Kashmiri Aroma, Quarry Hill, Horbury – financed from a government infrastructure grant administered by Wakefield Council and obtained by the Rotary Club with the support and encouragement of Councillors Byford, Nicholls, and Page. Now looked after and maintained by the team at Kashmiri Aroma.

 Since 2020 Horbury and Ossett Phoenix members have been involved to a greater or lesser extent in the installation of 18 defibrillators working with local individual funders, businesses and Yorkshire Ambulance Service. As a club they raise and distribute funds for many charitable purposes and good causes but money raised or received for defibrillators is kept in a designated fund purely for that purpose. All charitable funds are subject of scrutiny by the Trustees and subject of annual reports to the Charity Commission.

We are also keen to recruit new members to the Rotary Club we meet every two weeks on a Thursday evening and apart from fundraising, involving ourselves in community activities we enjoy a lively social life.
